When people see me carrying Olivia, i usually hear, “Omg put her down!” or, “thats too much stress on your belly!”..well, some of this may be true..i mean, Olivia is a nice sized 22 month old (with a nice sized appetite) lol…but there has been some research that shows that it is not as stressful as people may think..as long as its not overdone…especially in a normal pregnancy.
Plus, how can I say no to my little Princess?
I can’t blame the people that see me carrying my toddler because i know it may look stressful, especially when your bump is big & growing, & growing, and growing…. (you get the point, right?) lol…
..but after talking with my doctor and doing much research I’ve came to this conclusion.
(Just a reminder, the information concluded is for a normal pregnancy. I’m only a nurse, not a Medical Doctor or Specialist. If you don’t like my opinion on this topic…tough)
I found this response on babycenter.com which sums it all up for me:
“Yes, for most women, carrying a toddler while pregnant with baby number two is totally fine. But there’s a trick to it that you should know: When you do pick him up, lift with your legs so you don’t strain your back in the process. You’ll probably be most comfortable holding him on your hip, below your bump.
And while there’s no weight limit, just remember that it is possible to overdo it. Any pain or spotting is a sign you’ve overexerted yourself. It doesn’t necessarily mean something bad will happen but it does mean you need to tone it down in the future.
Of course, there are some women who should avoid carrying their toddlers because they have a condition like a short cervix or a history of preterm labor. If you’re one of them, your doctor or midwife has probably already told you about your restrictions. If you’re unsure, definitely ask.”
…there you have it.
